The Student Services department's role in student success is to create a culture and environment that unleashes the full potential of all the students at SAIT. Our primary goal is to support Student-First Culture, by focusing on student success and mobilizing all campus community members in this shared goal.
The Opportunity
This position requires a high level of professionalism, strong communication skills (verbal/non-verbal, language/interpersonal skills), organization and attention to detail, computer information literacy, records information management, data integrity auditing and a keen focus on providing excellent, serviced-focused interactions with students. The individual must be able to consistently communicate with applicants, students, team members and stakeholders to consolidate feedback. They must be a self-starter and take ownership of the required workflow to ensure timelines are met and processes are followed.
The Role
SAIT Apprenticeship Academic Advising support
Develop and maintain key intake documents and processes
Individual case management of all Apprentices to monitor grades, attendance concerns, exams, financial aid, EI, and other key success indicators
Develop and maintain proactive communication plan for pre-entry apprentice students regarding topics including, but not limited to, exams, employment insurance, professional expectations, student supports, PLAR, etc.
Explain PLAR to students and academic pathways post-apprenticeship
Have clear and detailed understanding of various student awards, government funding, and grants available to apprentices
Maintain relationship with AIT
In-depth understanding and knowledge of master exam schedule and timing of apprenticeship programs
Be a consistent, trustworthy, holistic point of contact throughout apprenticeship training
Promote trades/apprenticeship internally (i.e. Open House) and externally (i.e. high school career fairs)
Travel to apprenticeship locations to provide on-site support if needed
Campus Support and Collaboration
Maintain relationships with key Student Services on campus
Attend Team Apprenticeship Meetings as necessary
Liaise and work closely with Apprenticeship supports in Lamb Learner and Success Centre and within the schools that house apprentices
Administrative duties
Assist with various school activities e.g. Open House, New Student Orientation
Case management of apprentices as necessary
Developing and providing reports on apprenticeship students on an annual basis
Qualifications, Certifications or Designations
Minimum Required
High School Diploma
Knowledge of apprenticeships
3-5+ years experience working in apprenticeships
Post-Secondary experience
Preferred
Administrative Professional diploma or equivalent considered an asset
3-5+ years of administrative experience
Skills Required
Demonstrated ability to follow procedural guidelines while providing correct and suitable support to students, staff, and other key stakeholders
In-depth knowledge of academic policies and their implications for apprenticeship students
Strong communication skills as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders
Problem-solving skills to both proactively and reactively support apprentices throughout their tenure at SAIT
Independent management of day-to-day activities to support Apprenticeship across SAIT
