This position provides a welcoming, safe and secure environment for women accessing The Salvation Army Transitional Housing and supports them in providing referrals to housing in the community, community programming and needed resources. This position also provides supervision, support, coaching, and guidance to Residential Support Workers to ensure they are able to complete all their job duties effectively. The Team leader will be required to float between the 2 transitional housing cottages.
Resident / Program Support:
• Works alongside all Resident Support Workers, volunteers, and practicum students to ensure job duties are completed as needed.
• Conducts resident intakes, goal setting and follow ups.
• Monitors the activities of residents and maintains availability of personal, practical, and moral support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medication.
• Maintains strong communication both written and verbal for the benefit of the resident and program.
• Supervise meal times and keep track of meal payment. Connect with kitchen staff for resident’s concern for food (allergies, special meals etc.).
• Keeps track of occupancy numbers, occupancy fees, late payments, arrears, donations, and refund receipts.
• Keeps track of program supplies and inventory stock.
• Ensures resident assessment, admission, and orientation are being completed correctly, with dignity and respect for each person participating in the process.
• Works collaboratively with agencies wherever needed (e.g., other transitional housing agencies, community housing, PACT, SOS, HELP).
• Resolves all issues that arise within the buildings with residents or staff.
• Performs Resident Support Worker duties and other related tasks when needed.
• Provides orientation and training to new Resident Support Workers. Directs Resident Support Worker to other teams as needed (IT, facilities, finance, reception).
• Provides resident advocacy as needed.
• Audits resident files on a regular basis.
• Provides input into Resident Support Worker annual performance evaluations.
• Reviews policies, procedures, and program guidelines; provide suggestions for changes as needed.
• Reviews information and resident forms to ensure correct information and relevance.
• Participates in annual program operation planning.
• Reviews training manuals to ensure information is current.
• Conducts monthly inspections, audits and reporting (storage, temperature, files, supplies).
• Coordinate with program manager and facilities team for any building, or equipment breakdown, repair or replacement.
• May supervise day to day work of Resident Support Workers and/or Program Aids to ensure quality service delivery.
• May complete resident room inspections and follow up as needed or directed.
• May support other residential positions in job related duties.
Administrative:
• Develops shift schedules for the Resident Support Workers.
• Ensures scheduled vacation, medical and/or sick days (planned or immediate) are covered.
• Records accurate notes of day-to-day encounters.
• Maintains log books and completes daily reports.
• Answers program telephones and records/remits messages.
• Completes appropriate paperwork such as incident reports, vacation request, communication book etc., as required.
• Audits resident files as per procedures and accreditation standards.
• Monitors the disposal of stored properties.
• Attends staff meetings and Resident Support Team Leader meetings.
• When necessary, attends case conferences with Resident and management.
• May attend external agencies sector meetings.
• May conduct, or assist with, supervision meetings, coaching and provide input into performance evaluations of reporting Support Service Worker and practicum students.
• Understanding of, and ability to, work with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities that are vulnerable and find themselves homeless.
• Effective customer service skills.
• Computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and familiarity with databases.
• Responsive to safely resolve crisis situations and respond nonjudgmentally to problematic behaviours.
• Attentive listening and observation of body language and able to monitor and read the environment.
• Demonstrated trauma informed care, non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation skills; ability to diffuse difficult situations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey information to residents and community partners.
• Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
• Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
• Able to pack and lift resident’s belongings and engage in recreational activities.
HOURS OF WORK:
The team lead will be working a four days on three off and three days on four days off rotation (Working Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday one week and Thursday, Friday, Saturday following week)
