Operate computer software and equipment to quickly and accurately complete tasks under time constraints and pressure
Obtain critical details from callers such as location, nature of the emergency, and any other relevant information accurately and efficiently to dispatch appropriate responders such as campus security, police, medical or fire
Stay composed and focused during high-pressure situations, providing clear, concise communication to both callers and responders.
Adhere to established protocols, policies, and procedures for handling emergency calls, ensuring compliance with legal and safety regulations.
Prepare reports on the calls and incidents handled, documenting key actions and outcomes for record-keeping purposes.
Regularly patrol the campus, including buildings, parking lots, walkways, and other areas to ensure a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors
Investigate and respond to incidents such as disturbances, medical emergencies, fires, theft, vandalism, or other safety concerns on campus.
Enforce university policies and regulations, such as rules regarding alcohol, drugs, smoking, noise, and parking violations.
Serve as a resource for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by providing directions, answering questions, and offering general assistance.
Strong judgment and critical thinking abilities to prioritize emergency situations and dispatch appropriate resources.
Proficiency in typing and entering data accurately with typing speed of 45-50 words per minute (mandatory typing test)
Understanding of emergency response protocols, including how to provide guidance (e.g., first aid, CPR) to callers until responders arrive.
Capacity to manage emotionally charged calls, providing empathy and reassurance to distressed individuals.
Ability to handle multiple phone lines, dispatch systems, and tasks simultaneously while maintaining focus.
Ability to work closely with emergency responders, and law enforcement to coordinate effective responses.
Valid Occupational First Aid
Valid BC Security License
Must be able to work Evening shifts
Be eligible to work full- time in Canada
