About Us

The Geoscience and Mines Branch of the Department of Natural Resources delivers leadership in the management and responsible development of the Province's mineral resource assets along with scientific support of public health and safety through regional mapping and hazard mapping programs. Within the Branch, the Geological Survey Division includes a team of expert geoscientists who are responsible for delivering high quality, timely geoscience data, information, services, and support to a wide range of stakeholders, including all levels of government, industry, academia, and the public.

About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Critical Minerals and Resources, the Core Library Client Services Coordinator will be directly responsible for supporting mineral resource industry clients at the Drill Core Library in Stellarton. They will provide efficient and knowledgeable service related to client visits.

Primary Accountabilities

Some of the primary accountabilities of this role will include:

  • Providing effective client service to clients of the Core Library such as preparing for client visits to the Core Library and assisting clients with questions.
  • Maintaining of an accurate inventory of materials and their location.
  • Consulting mineral assessment reports and updating a digital drill core database.
  • Carrying out facility maintenance projects at the Core Library, including snow removal, lawn care, and light building maintenance.
  • Aligning work with the priorities set by the Core Library Geologist and supporting their projects as needed at the facility.
  • Occasional contribution to other Geological Survey Division initiatives aimed at supporting the mineral resource sector such as geoscience research projects, field assistance, and/or outreach events.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have completed a B.Sc. in Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Geosciences, or similar, along with a minimum of 3 summer terms (12 months) of experience in a geoscience-related field. An acceptable equivalent of training and experience in the mineral resource industry may be considered.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience and a strong understanding of working with drill core. This may include activities such as core logging, sampling and, and other mineral exploration experience.
  • Demonstrate a professional attitude and a commitment to maintaining a high standard of client service, ensuring clear communication and responsiveness to client needs.
  • Be able to work both independently and collaboratively, managing tasks efficiently while also contributing to a team-oriented work environment.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and clients with diverse backgrounds.
  • Promote a safe and healthy workplace culture, adhering to safety protocols and contributing to a positive team dynamic.
  • Be comfortable performing physical tasks, including some heavy lifting and assisting in physically demanding activities (e.g., lifting, stacking, etc.), as required.
  • Hold a valid NS Class 5 Driver's License.

Familiarity with GIS applications and handling digital data is beneficial. Experience with a forklift is an asset, though training will be provided.

Working Conditions

This role is based in Stellarton. It will include work in an office, warehouse environment, and indoor core logging facility. Additional PPE is required for some parts of the facility and will be provided (e.g., steel-toed boots). Some limited fieldwork and travel in Nova Scotia may be required.

Pay Grade: PR 07 - PR 12

Salary Range: $2,004.96 - $2,982.67 Bi-Weekly
