What you will be doing

  • Oversees the coordination, facilitation, and effective delivery of summer camp inclusion programming for City of Cambridge Summer Camps including daily programming, special events and weekly trips for campers ages 4-12.

  • Supervises, trains, coaches, mentors, and supports the performance evaluations to Inclusion Support Workers across City of Cambridge Camp Locations.

  • Oversees daily program planning, delivery, and administration for Sunblast/Imagination Station Camps, ensuring an engaging, creative, age-appropriate, inclusive, and safe summer camp operation.

  • Provides support and responds to behavior management and emergency situations and ensures compliance with City policies and procedures.

  • Schedules and supports staff into the camp program.

  • Adheres to the medication policy and procedures including administering and documenting of medication.

  • Completes HIGH FIVE Quest 2 evaluations as scheduled.

  • Assists with the facilitation of camp training and attends all staff meetings.

  • Ensures the camp program and location meets health and safety standards.

  • Adheres to City policies and procedures.

  • Maintains records and reports as required.

  • Completes and submits administrative tasks (program plans, attendance forms, etc.) within specified deadlines.

  • Assist campers with personal hygiene (e.g. toileting, changing, washing hands) and always in the attendance of another staff member, and meal assistance as necessary.

  • Orders supplies and equipment as required.

  • Ensures professional and appropriate communication with parents/guardians and the public.

  • Maintains regular communication with Recreation Coordinator and informs of customer feedback, staff performance, facility, and program updates promptly.

Education

  • Diploma/degree, or enrolled in Special Education, Disability Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Child & Youth, Early Childhood Educator, or combination of education and experience related to working with individuals with disabilities

  • Behaviour Management Systems, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and/or Safe Management training considered an asset

Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum 3 years' experience working with populations with special needs in integrated settings, and/or previous related camp experience

  • Knowledge of program planning, child development stages, and adaptive programming.

  • Supervisory experience, preferably in a camp setting

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to plan, organize and lead, coach, and motivate staff in a team environment

  • Leadership skills and abilities to provide and promote a positive team culture

We are looking for these certificates

Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED

High Five - Principles of Healthy Child Development

High Five Quest 2 (or willingness to obtain as a condition of offer)

Safeguard Training (or willingness to obtain as a condition of offer)

Current and valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position

Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications

High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development, High Five Quest 2, and Standard First Aid, CPR C AED Certificate

Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour

Valid G2 or G class driver's license and access to vehicle required

Rate of pay

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $23.00.

Hours of work

May 1 - August 29, 2025

  • Up to 40 hours per week *hours dependent on weekly registrations at location*

  • Mandatory training between May 1 - June 29

  • Camp starts on Monday June 30 and ends on Friday August 29

  • Camp does not run on July 1 (Canada Day) or August 4 (Civic Holiday)

  • Mandatory paid training dates/sessions will occur in May/June and mandatory weekly evening staff meetings in July and August, as scheduled by the Recreation Coordinator - Youth. Please note that training dates are subject to change.
